Going Green: Three Ways to Decorate with the 2013 Color of the Year
It happens every year at this time. You
stand in front of your closet searching for something green to wear to
get in the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day (or, more likely, to ensure you
don’t get pinched). You might have an easier time finding something
fashionable in the stores this year, because emerald has been named the
Pantone 2013 Color of the Year. The color that Pantone
describes is “lively, radiant, lush…a color of elegance and beauty that
enhances our sense of well-being, balance and
harmony,” and can even make your home come to life. Whether you’re
willing to boldly paint your walls with the regal color or tastefully
mix it into your decor with rich-hued accessories, here are three easy
ways to introduce emerald into your interiors this year.
1. Jump Right In
Want to really make a statement? Paint your walls in emerald green. Although emerald is a vibrant, energetic hue, the color green overall is considered calming, which makes it ideal for bedrooms. Patterned textiles like this Du Barry linen blend by Osborne & Little contrasts the green against a creamy white and features a bold geometric pattern creates a dynamic backdrop for nearly any type of décor.
A striking piece of furniture like this antique Chinese cabinet is another easy way to add interest and depth to your décor. Or, if your style is more glam than worldly, add a piece like this Hollywood Regency lacquer sideboard to your dining room.
2. Wade Around
Need your emerald fix in smaller doses? Concentrate on pieces that saturate color and support your design motif, like this striking oil painting or this pop art piece. This Moroccan table is just the piece to add a bit of brightly hued whimsy, and can slip easily into almost any eclectic design.
3. Dip a Toe
If you’re not one to purchase a piece that’s bigger than a breadbox in a color that’s out of your comfort zone, you can still play in the emerald pool, by adding a few key accessories. A beautiful vase or a set of antique lamps give you a quick pops of color while adding another layer of interest to your existing space.
