How to Redecorate Your Bedroom for Under $100

If your bedroom needs a makeover, but you only have $100 to spend, don't despair. Although you can't redo the entire room for that amount, you can make a significant improvement. Pick just one area to focus on, and even a tiny budget can go far.

Paint

A fresh coat of paint provides the most impact for your money. For less than $100, you can buy a gallon of good-quality paint for the walls, a quart of paint for the trim and a paint roller set with all the equipment you'll need. Go clean and fresh with a coat of white, cream or soft gray. Add a charming, feminine feel with soft pink, green, peach or yellow. Bring sophisticated tranquility to the space with a medium brown or gray. Or, go all out and paint your walls a cheerful bright green, blue, pink or lavender.

Bedding

Make your room feel fresh again with the immediate impact of new bedding. Although expensive designer brands are probably out of reach on a $100 budget, you can find terrific deals on moderate brands at discount department stores, home goods shops or linen outlets. Cover your bed with a colorful quilt, comforter or bedspread; then finish with new matching sheets. Make it even easier with a complete "bed in a bag" set, which generally have low thread-count sheets, but the included shams make them worth the price.

Windows or Floor

You might prefer to focus on your window or your bedroom floor. By shopping at discount department stores or home improvement centers, you can cheer your window with an inexpensive roll-up blind and sheer curtains, or choose vertical blinds in a natural wood-tone, clean white, a bright tone or a contemporary neutral. If you focus on the floor, look for a thick, comfortable area rug with a bold pattern to liven up the entire room. Choose a rug large enough to fill a significant portion of your bedroom for the biggest impact.

Accessories

If you prefer to spread your budget throughout the room, visit a flea market or thrift store for a few new accessories at rock-bottom prices. A new lamp, or even a new lampshade, is an instant update. Add a mirror over your dresser, and drape it with a garland of faux flowers. Liven up your walls with one or two framed posters. Add a few candles or a couple of collectibles to your nightstand. With careful shopping, you can find all of these for under $100.
